4 Ways To Make My Computer Faster - Computer Sciences Textbooks

4 Ways To Make My Computer Faster
By Logan Albright

"Make my computer faster! Faster! Faster!" Does this sound familiar to those of you tech junkies out there who often dream of having a magic genie at your service to make your computer run faster? With processing power-hungry software like Adobe Premiere and World of Warcraft in existence today, it is a necessity for every individual to have the knowledge of speeding up his or her personal computer. Work or play, the acquisition of this knowledge is a must. For starters, I will provide 4 techniques to make your computer run faster than ever. You do not need a magic genie by the way.

Hardware wise, it would be a good idea to invest in quality hardware upgrades for your computer in order to make your computer run faster. If you purchased your computer some one year ago, chances are, the hardware inside the casing has probably already gone obsolete. Hardware that you can choose to invest in would include a module of RAM (random access memory), a new CPU chip or a new graphics card. The former two are necessary for all computer users as it enables computer programs to operate smoothly and be accessed at faster speeds. The role of the graphics card in boosting computer speeds can perhaps only be applicable to the computer gamer or graphics designer. A dedicated graphics card frees up memory space when processing memory-intensive graphic details or three dimensional objects. In any case, for the casual computer user, purchasing an additional module of RAM or upgrading your CPU chip would produce immediate returns through means of a noticeably faster computer.

It would be a good idea to minimize the number of objects on your desktop especially if you are running substantially older computers. Desktop icons consume a relatively large amount of resource and can result in noticeably slower start up times when you power up your computer. Minimize the number of shortcut icons placed on your desktop by removing those that are used the least frequently. Wallpapers on a desktop are also a cause for slow computer processing speeds. High resolution wallpapers can cause a great strain to your computer's resources. The higher the resolution, the larger the file space and the greater the subsequent strain to your system's resources. Remove all these and you would find yourself with a faster computer.

Provide sufficient space for the hard disk with which you installed your computer's operating system. For example, if you have installed Windows XP in Drive C, avoid over clogging this particular drive by installing too many software. Insufficient hard disk space where the computer's operating system is installed often leads to slow computer processing speeds. Give your operating system some allowance. If possible, partition your hard disk into two and install the bulk of your applications or store your files in the partition of the hard disk that does not contain the computer's operating systems.

Lastly, perform regular maintenance activities such as running a weekly registry cleaner or disk defragmentation exercise. Clutter tends to occur when programs are installed and subsequently deleted. Such clutter tends to clog up the computer's memory resulting in slower processing speeds. Deal with this issue by maintaining your computer regularly and you will be rewarded with a faster computer.

Speeding up your computer is not a difficult task. All it requires is the due diligence and consistency. Doing so will enable your computer to run faster, giving you greater returns in the long run.

Computer Networks (4th Edition) - Computer Sciences Textbooks

Computer Networks (4th Edition)

Computer Networks (4th Edition)
By Andrew S. Tanenbaum

Computer Networks won't save one minute over the next year. It has no step-by-step procedures, no problem solving sections, and no butt-saving tricks. The only purpose it can serve at a downed site is as a shield against thrown objects from frustrated users. Normally, theoretical books like this one receive a quick skim and are promptly sent to my for-looks-only tome tomb. However, this isn't a normal theoretical book. It's fascinating. In fact, I read it not once but three times. Tanenbaum fills over 700 pages with everything I didn't know, or better still, only thought I knew about networks. --Don Bryson, Dr. Dobb's Journal

Antivirus Security - Computer Sciences Textbooks

Antivirus Security
by George Sanchez

Computer security has always been a headache for computer users. They want to connect to Internet but they are afraid if this will hamper the security of their data which resides in their computer systems. Everyone loves their data. Many companies have tried hard to create Antivirus Security software which will solve almost all the needs of a general user but most of them have failed to do so. Some of them which succeeded in creating Antivirus Security software are Norton, Kaspersky, Zone Alarm, MacAfee etc.
Antivirus Security is a must for any computer system and one should never think that Antivirus Security will be required only by those computers which connect to Internet. CD and USB which you borrow from your friends can easily be used by viruses to transfer themselves from one computer to another. Hence every computer must have Antivirus Security and the real time virus check should be enabled.

Using the real time virus scan Antivirus Security software are able to keep a check of your computer behind the curtains and for this you don’t even have to do manual scans. Antivirus Security software itself will detect for viruses. Users can also schedule for full virus scans for times when their computer is free. This way regular virus checkup will keep your computer clean from harmful and malicious viruses.

Antivirus Security software must be updated regularly with new virus definitions so as to keep pace with the fast developing viruses. One should remember to perform some self research to analyze that which is the best antivirus available around the Internet. This might consume lots of time but the end result will be something that focuses on you and your needs as the test was also performed by you.

Antivirus Security software is an integral part of every computer and if you are still not using any Antivirus Security software then this is the best time to do so. Go for it.

How to Protect Your Computer From a Trojan Horse - Computer Sciences Textbooks

How to Protect Your Computer From a Trojan Horse
By Mark E Newman

Using Google as a research aide for her thesis on money laundering was a common occurrence of one individual law school student. Naturally, this was helpful to the course of writing her paper. As her research progressed, the student noticed that she was being directed to an annoying page that had nothing to do with her subject matter every time she typed key words into the search box.

As the persistence of the problem lingered, she grew increasingly certain that it was the result of being bugged rather than a problem with Google or her internet connection. As far as irritations go, human beings that bug us are the most easy to fend off. Stopping adware and spyware, the type of bugs that plagued the student, is much more difficult. Though the student used her computer daily for the research and writing of her papers, she was otherwise not very technologically educated.

The situation above is not an isolated case, there are many people who find themselves caught up in technology problems that are mind boggling but actually can be answered with two words and those two words are spyware and adware. Though it did not gain popularity until 2000, the term 'spyware' was first introduced in 1995. This refers to any software program or script which allows admission to the computer owner's personal information.

Typically examining the keystrokes and browsing history of the computer user, this spying can also include hard drive infiltration. Though these methods seem like the kind of severe tactics one would expect out of a good Hollywood spy flick, anyone can fall prey to spyware. Calling people affected by these attacks victims is accurate, as no one wishes to have their online activities monitored. Frequently spyware is used for stealing private information such as credit card details, and this far outweighs the benefits of tracking criminals using these programs. Including good anti-spyware programs on your computer system only makes sense.

As they are similarly harmful programs, malware and adware should be blocked along with spyware. Helping in these tasks are the many blocker programs designed for adware and spyware. Current programs causing harm to your system are disabled or removed, and future threats are prevented from infiltrating your system through the usage of these blockers.

Spyware, adware, and malware prove that computer bugs do not have to be self replicating, like viruses and worms, to prevent the normal usage of computers. After being infiltrated, computers typically experience a noticeable decline in their speed. In some infections, spyware is not even evident as the cause so it can get away with its crime. It only makes sense to install a good blocker in order to prevent the installation of these infectious programs.

A Trojan Horse can destroy your computer. Like its mythical namesake (dramatised in Lego), whatever crawls out of a digital Trojan horse will be a nasty surprise. A Trojan horse usually takes the form of an innocuous software program that unleashes a flood of malware or viruses after it's installed and run. Since attacks and ease of removal vary -- an ad generator is easier to remove than a stealth rootkit -- there's no one-size-fits-all solution. However, there are some common techniques for picking your way through the wreckage. In my experience, using both Zone Alarm and AVG Anti Spyware offer the best computer security in todays cyber spy world.
